Passage Rock (Waiheke Island)
At Herald on Sunday Wine Club we love Passage Rock and seeing as we are sporting their delicious wines on our site, it is only fitting that you know a bit more about where these wines come from and who produces them. Passage Rock Wines was established in 1994 by David and Veronkia Evans-Gander. This boutique winery is set in the tranquil Te Matuku valley on sunny Waiheke Island near Auckland.
David and Veronika's aim is to work with the seasons, the sites and the people involved in their operation produce ripe, full bodied red wines made of Cabenet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah grapes.
The white styles have pronounced fruit flavours. These include both an unoaked and a barrel fermented Chardonnay. The philosophy is to consistently make premium wines through careful observation and selection throughout the whole grape growing and wine making process. A strong desire to work sustainably means the Swiss integrated wine production methods are followed in the vineyard.
Recognition of quality of these wines has come from both cuisine and Micheal Cooper. Seated amongst the vines, is Passage Rock’s beautiful café - the perfect setting to come and relax. You’ll enjoy stunning views and award-winning wines. The friendly team will make you feel like long-time friends of Passage Rock Winery. We encourage you to take your whole family and spend the day in the sun.

The freshest, top-quality ingredients have made the café’s wood-fired pizza world famous on Waiheke Island! The winery is definitely worth a visit and is open May to August in the weekends from 12am – 4pm.
